WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - The president of Wheeling Jesuit University, the Rev. James J. Fleming, has resigned the post.

The university said in a news release that it has begun a search for an interim president and expects an appointment to be made by Jan. 15.

Fleming has been administrator at the university for seven years, the first three as vice president and as president since 2013.

Fleming said in the release that his time in West Virginia has been “the most engaging in my 34 years as a Jesuit educator.”
