ATLANTA (AP) - Thousands of customers are without power as snow and ice continues to cause problems through metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Snow began to fall in north Georgia Friday evening and moved into metro Atlanta Friday night. Ice accumulated overnight.

WSB-TV reports (https://2wsb.tv/2iOm01R ) Georgia Power said it restored power to more than 50,000 customers overnight. But as of 3 p.m. Saturday, more than 3,500 customers statewide remained without electricity.

Georgia Power says it is prepared to handle more outages. High winds in some locations may cause additional outages throughout the day.

Georgia EMC says 1,500 customers were without power due to the storm.
