RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say they have responded to roughly 686 traffic accidents and assisted more than 1,000 disabled cars across the state due to the winter storm.

Police say between midnight on Saturday and noon on Sunday, they have investigated one fatal car wreck in Greene County in which icy roads played a role, and received 3,257 calls for service.

Police say as of 8:30 a.m. on Sunday they were actively aiding 15 stuck or disabled motorists and investigating three crashes across the state.

Police are asking drivers to stay off the road until temperatures rise.
