SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a man and a woman have been arrested after shots were fired toward officers during an hourslong standoff with a SWAT team at a Salt Lake City hotel.

John Rockne Mendenhall and Shelby Irina McDougal were arrested Monday for investigation of aggravated assault on a police officer and other charges.

Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer says officers arrived at the Rodeway Inn after someone called 911 from one of the hotel rooms and hung up.

The room’s occupants refused to open the door for officers, and Shearer says shots were fired when the hotel manager tried to enter the room.

A SWAT team was brought in and the hotel was evacuated.

Shearer says officers eventually used tear gas in the room, and more shots were fired at officers before the suspects were taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.
