LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) - A former government official in Eastern Oregon has pleaded not guilty to theft and other charges.

Judy Rygg was the city recorder in Island City, a community of about 1,000 residents northeast of La Grande.

The Observer newspaper reports (https://is.gd/InlunS ) that an Oregon State Police investigation focused on incidents during a six-year span that led to a budget shortfall of more than $43,000.

In addition to theft, Rygg pleaded not guilty Tuesday to official misconduct, computer crime and tampering with public records.
