NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) - Officials say a male inmate has escaped from a jail in Louisiana.

The Advocate reports that Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Robert Martin says Calvin Weatherford escaped shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday. He says Weatherford was being held at the parish jail on two counts of simple burglary and a probation hold.

Officials say the inmate on work detail had scaled a security fence and escaped the jail in Napoleonville.

Martin says a “large presence” of deputies has been deployed in the search.

Weatherford is described as a 6-foot (1.8-meter), 165-pound (75-kilogram) man with dark brown hair, hazel eyes and a word tattooed across his upper back. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and orange pants with black and yellow tennis shoes.
