EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A Springfield man who unsuccessfully claimed self-defense at trial has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for shooting an acquaintance during a noise dispute in March.
The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/FlUUAl ) 26-year-old Antonio Villanueva was sentenced Wednesday after a judge rejected his request for a new trial.
The jury convicted Villanueva of attempted murder and other crimes, including being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities said Antonio Villanueva was intoxicated when he rode an all-terrain vehicle to the home of an acquaintance. The man, who was with his brother at the time, became upset about the ATV’s noise.
One of the men pushed Villanueva, who left but later returned and pulled a gun. An altercation ensued and the victim was shot in the arm and leg.
