The brief Francisco Rodriguez experiment is over.

The Washington Nationals released Rodriguez Friday, according to The Washington Post.

Rodriguez, 35, was signed last month by the Nationals on a flier to see if he had anything left to help their bullpen.

Washington signed Rodriguez, nicknamed “K-Rod,” to a minor league contract days after the Detroit Tigers released him on June 23.

He appeared in five games in the Nationals’ minor league ranks, playing for various teams. He allowed only one run in five games, but walked three and allowed five hits.

Rodriguez is fourth all-time in saves.
