EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a pilot has been killed in the crash of a single-engine plane at a small Southern California airport.

Fire officials say crews responded shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday to the crash at the airfield in the city of El Monte east of downtown Los Angeles.

Ian Gregor with the Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot was the only person on board.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
