TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities have cleared two deputies who fatally shot a man outside a motel south of Seattle after he drove into a deputy.
The News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2t25n5h) that prosecutors on Friday said Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies Jesse Hotz and Shaun Darby acted lawfully in the March 14 shooting death of 36-year-old Ryan Rosa.
Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says Rosa’s actions forced the deputies to use justifiable deadly force.
Authorities say the incident happened when a special investigations unit went to the motel in Fife, Washington, to arrest Rosa, a felon wanted for multiple burglaries.
Police say Rosa drove into a deputy, knocking him to the ground, and that Hotz and Darby fired after Rosa drove at them.
Rosa died at the scene. Police say toxicology tests found a significant amount of methamphetamine in Rosa’s system.
