EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A 62-year-old Everett man has pleaded guilty to killing a homeless woman authorities say he had been dating.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2t2EGNu) that John Derosia pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree murder in the June 23 beating and stabbing death of 46-year-old Shannon Yeager.

In pleading guilty, Derosia said that given his age he expected to spend the rest of his life in prison even if the charge was reduced.

Defense attorney Jennifer Bartlett said the guilty plea benefited Derosia because some potential allegations could lead to an aggravated murder charge that made possible a death sentence.

Derosia was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison for strangling his wife in 2003. He also has a previous conviction for armed robbery.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced next month.
