HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Police have arrested the parents and grandmother of a 9-year-old girl who died last year after being found “severely malnourished and unconscious” inside a Hilo home.

Police arrested 49-year-old Kevin Lehano, 33-year-old Tiffany Stone, and 59-year-old Henrietta Stone on Friday after a grand jury returned an indictment charging all three with second-degree murder.

Hawaii County Prosecutor Mitch Roth called the case rare. He says the indictment was obtained by Rick Damerville - the same prosecutor who handled the cases of Peter Kema Sr. and Jaylin Kema, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of their son “Peter Boy.”

All three defendants are being held in a Hilo jail in lieu of $100,000 bail each. They are scheduled for arraignments and pleas Monday in Hilo Circuit Court.
