PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison in the Pittsburgh murder of a man authorities said was killed to prevent him from linking the defendant to an earlier shooting.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://bit.ly/2tgU352 ) reports that 19-year-old Amirae Benton was sentenced Wednesday in Allegheny County to the mandatory term following a jury conviction of first-degree murder in April. Twenty-two-year-old Lucas Guggenheimer was convicted of third-degree murder in a separate trial and sentenced to 24 to 48 years in prison.
Authorities said they and 28-year-old Justin Granda went to a home to buy marijuana in October 2015 but gunfire broke out after a robbery attempt. Authorities said Granda fled, leaving a cellphone behind, and the other two killed him because they feared he could link them to the crime.
