NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A group of motorists was trapped after protective netting meant to catch construction debris fell onto the roadway on a South Carolina bridge.

Authorities say the netting on the Don N. Holt Bridge on Interstate 526 fell during a storm during Wednesday evening’s commute.

North Charleston police say about a dozen drivers were rescued from their vehicles. No injuries have been reported. One person was taken to the hospital for what appeared to be a panic attack.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation says the bridge was reopened Thursday morning, more than 12 hours after it was closed, snarling traffic.

The bridge is one of only two over the Cooper River connecting Charleston and North Charleston to Mount Pleasant. The closing caused gridlock on the Ravenel Bridge near downtown Charleston.
