EX-ESCORT GETS 16-YEAR SENTENCE FOR HUSBAND’S MURDER PLOT
Circuit Judge Glenn Kelley said Friday that Dalia Dippolito acted in a “cold and calculated manner.” Dippolito was convicted last month of solicitation of first-degree murder. She was recorded on video and audio in 2009 as she plotted to kill Michael Dippolito. Prosecutors believe she wanted control of the couple’s town house and his savings. The case gained national attention when it was featured on the TV shows “Cops” and “20/20.”
ACCIDENT AT FLORIDA POWER PLANT CLAIMS FIFTH LIFE
BRACE Industrial Group said its employee, 56-year-old Armando Perez, died Thursday of injuries he sustained in the June 29 accident at the Tampa Electric Big Bend Power Station. Molten slag, a substance that can reach temperatures upward of 1,000 degrees, gushed from a containment tank and burning workers in the vicinity.
TEENS MAY FACE CHARGE AFTER WATCHING MAN DROWN IN RETENTION POND
Cocoa Mayor Henry Parrish III says the misdemeanor charge is at least a start in the July 9 drowning death of 31-year-old Jamel Dunn. It’s generally not a crime to fail to come to someone’s rescue in Florida or elsewhere in the U.S. Cocoa police say after the drowning they discovered a group of teens recorded Dunn’s drowning on video. The teens can be heard laughing at Dunn, telling him he’s going die and they weren’t going to help him.
EX-MILITARY CONTRACTOR GETS LIFE IN PRISON IN SEX CASE
Court records show a Miami federal judge sentenced 37-year-old Christopher Glenn on Friday. He was convicted by a jury earlier this year of sex crimes involving girls between ages 13 and 16 while stationed at a U.S. base in Honduras. Glenn was already serving a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to stealing military secrets. That investigation turned up evidence in the sex abuse case.
’FLASHY’ FLORIDA BOY CAUGHT 4 TIMES IN 6 WEEKS FOR CAR THEFT
Police say it was his fourth arrest for car theft in six weeks. Daytona Beach police Sgt. Tim Ehrenkaufer says investigators have noticed a brashness that’s not common in children that young. Ehrenkaufer says the boy has a “look-at-me attitude.” In fact, Capt. Jennifer Krosschell says the boy is so small that when police seized the stolen car “the driver’s seat was pushed up to the steering wheel.” He was first arrested in June.
