MARION, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been taken into custody after firing at police officers investigating a home invasion in South Carolina.

Marion County Sheriff Brian Wallace said no one was hurt in the shooting or a car chase about 7 a.m. Friday.

The sheriff says the men fired on the officers at a home near Marion. One bullet hit a deputy’s shotgun, breaking it.

Wallace says deputies and troopers chased the men who fired on officers while one officer fired back. The suspects’ car then crashed.

Wallace didn’t release the men’s names.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry says Wallace didn’t ask his agency to investigate. Berry says the officer is white and the two men who shot at police are black.

Marion is 100 miles northeast of Charleston.
