MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) - A teenage father charged with suffocating his 4-month-old son has been ordered to stand trial.
At a preliminary hearing Friday, the teen’s lawyer said he adamantly denies harming the infant.
The 17-year-old was arrested in May and charged with criminal homicide. Police say the infant, Isaiah Brooks-Leonard, was found unresponsive at a McKeesport residence after being home alone with his father Feb. 6.
A medical examiner determined the child died of asphyxiation.
The teen’s lawyer says the infant was injured when he was dropped by an 8-year-old relative earlier in the day.
Prosecutors say a fall would not explain the infant’s injuries.
