WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - A Virginia man accused of killing an elderly man with a shovel during a break-in in rural Pennsylvania has been found competent to stand trial.
PennLive.com (https://bit.ly/2vMaEi4 ) reports that a Lycoming County judge issued the ruling Friday in the case of 24-year-old Graham Norby-Vardac of Alexandria, Virginia.
He’s charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and other counts in the death of 82-year-old Donald Kleese Jr., whose body was found April 6 in Eldred Township north of Williamsport. The defendant was stopped the same day trying to drive the victim’s station wagon into Canada.
At his arraignment, Norby-Vardac denied having killed Kleese, saying “I couldn’t bring myself to kill anyone.” Defense attorney Robert Hoffa said his client has been receiving mental health treatment since he was a young child.
