COAL CENTER, Pa. (AP) - A boat club that sits atop a barge has floated down a rain-swollen Pennsylvania river and sunk after it crashed into a lock and dam facility.

The California Boat Club broke free and floated on the Monongahela River on Saturday. It wound up about seven miles downriver and sank near the Charleroi Lock and Dam, which is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The rain-swollen river crested about 8 feet above flood stage in Charleroi. The locks were closed because of the high water.

The California Boat Club had flooded in May when the barge sprang a leak.

It’s unclear whether the others will try to salvage the club and reopen it.
