WASHINGTON, Mo. (AP) - Thomas Miller Sr., the former co-publisher of the Washington Missourian and Missouri Press Association president in 1992, has died.

The Missourian reports that Miller was 81 when he died last Thursday at a St. Louis County hospital, three days after becoming ill.

Miller’s career at the Missourian spanned nearly four decades, including roughly 35 years as its advertising director. He retired in 1996.

Miller was president of the Missouri Advertising Managers’ Association in 1971, and he received the University of Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism in 1992.

He was a member of the Missouri Press Association Foundation and the State Historical Society of Missouri, and he was the Washington Historical Society’s president.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Washington’s St. Francis Borgia Church.
