BEAR, Del. (AP) - A firefighter was hurt and two dozen people were displaced when a fire raced through a group of townhouses in Delaware.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said in a statement that the fire broke out about noon Thursday. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the townhouses.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital with burns.

The fire marshal’s office says the fire was caused by smoking materials that were improperly discarded on a back deck.

Four townhomes sustained a total of $500,000 in damage.
