NEW YORK (AP) - New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has filed a federal lawsuit against anti-abortion protesters who he claims repeatedly harass and threaten patients at an abortion clinic in Queens.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court alleges that every Saturday morning protesters have subjected incoming patients at Choices Women’s Medical Center in Jamaica with a barrage of verbal abuse and threats.
Schneiderman claims their tactics “routinely deter or delay patients who are attempting to access medically necessary care.”
The Democratic attorney general says “the law guarantees women the right to control their own bodies and access the reproductive health care they need without obstruction.”
The lawsuit and preliminary injunction motion naming 14 individuals seeks to stop the unlawful conduct and to establish a 16-foot buffer zone around the clinic’s entrance.
