EDGEWATER, Colo. (AP) - An Edgewater police officer is in critical condition after suffering a heart attack during a struggle to arrest a DUI suspect.
Cpl. Michael Nesbitt was being treated Saturday at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge.
Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey says Nesbitt suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest while trying to arrest Connor Dougherty, who was suspected of driving a scooter while intoxicated early Friday.
Mackey said in a statement that Dougherty fought officers as they tried to take him into custody.
Dougherty was booked into Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault of a police officer and other charges.
