Man sentenced to 14 to 28 years in beating death

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 14 to 28 years in prison in the death of a Pennsylvania man whose beating was recorded on a cellphone.

Twenty-three-year-old Dajour James pleaded guilty Friday to third-degree murder in the May 2016 death of 45-year-old Charles Kronenberg IV.

Police said the victim was beaten in the head with a beer can and dragged across the ground, then kicked and punched repeatedly.

Investigators said he had been involved in an argument with a relative of the defendant. He died the next day of a brain injury.

Defense attorney Evan Kelly described the case as “tragic” but said “There is good in my client.” Relatives said he had expressed remorse.

Judge Merrill Spahn said the “senseless” slaying had left both families “dramatically changed.”
