CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - A man who stole at least 40 works from an art collector while acting as the victim’s caretaker has been sentenced to a year in prison.

William Reed III must also pay $92,240 in restitution under the sentence imposed Monday. The 42-year-old Rock Hill, Maryland man pleaded guilty last October to interstate transportation of stolen property.

Reed started working as a caretaker for the Maryland resident in June 2013. Federal prosecutors say the victim was an art collector and dealer who maintained an eclectic collection of fine art by American and European artists.

During a six-month period in 2014, Reed took various pieces without the victim’s permission and sold them at various locations, including a pawn shop in Salem, New Jersey, and to an individual in Chestertown, Maryland.
