Patrick Ewing now has help as Hoyas coach, after the team named Louis Orr, Robert Kirby and Akbar Waheed to its staff Monday.

“I’m very excited to have experienced and well-rounded coaches on my staff,” Ewing said in a statement. “From the day I returned to my alma mater, my primary goal was to get my staff assembled and get our coaches out on the road and recruiting the best student-athletes to Georgetown.

Orr was head coach at Seton Hall from 2001-06 where he was Big East Coach of the Year in 2003, and at Bowling Green State University from 2007-14. The Syracuse graduate played in the NBA for eight years, six of them alongside Ewing with the Knicks.

Kirby returns to Georgetown where he was an assistant coach from 2010-12. Most recently, he was an assistant coach at LSU from 2016-17 and Memphis from 2013-15.

Kirby is known as a skilled recruiter, who helped land Otto Porter for the Hoyas during his first stint at Georgetown.

Waheed was retained by the program after joining the Georgetown staff as an assistant coach last May. Waheed, a D.C. native who graduated from Gonzaga College High School, has been an assistant coach at Hofstra, Boston College and Niagara, as well as a scout for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA.
