ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque woman accused of orchestrating the fatal shooting of her ex-boyfriend in 2014 has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Samantha Garcia also was sentenced Wednesday to five years of probation.

Garcia faced up to a 22-year prison term after entering a plea agreement two months ago and pleading guilty to second-degree murder, criminal solicitation to commit second-degree murder and conspiracy.

Prosecutors say Garcia solicited the murder by lying to co-defendant Danny Trujillo, saying her daughter was sexually assaulted by her former boyfriend Eloi Leyba.

Authorities say an investigation by Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office determined Garcia’s daughter was never raped.

The 26-year-old Leyba was killed in October 2014 and Trujillo was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the fatal shooting.
