PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The state is hosting guided hiking tours to celebrate National Trails Day.

The American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is a celebration of the nation’s trail system. The nonprofit holds the event annually on the first Saturday in June.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is offering guided hiking tours at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Browning Woods Trail in South Kingstown and at the Dr. John Champlin Glacier Park Trail in Westerly.

There’s a one-mile walking tour scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Work & Culture in Woonsocket. The group will walk along the Blackstone River and Main Street.

These are eligible activities for the department’s Great Outdoors Pursuit. The summer-long game aims to get children and parents outdoors and involved in more physical activity.
