The Washington Capitals will play seven preseason games, three of them at the Verizon Center, the team announced Wednesday.

The Capitals kicks off their schedule Sept. 18 against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. The start is eight days earlier this season. The Capitals began the preseason on Sept. 26 last year.

Two days later, the Capitals will travel to Montreal to take on Canadiens.

On Sept. 22, Washington will start a three-game home stand against the St. Louis Blues. The Capitals then face the Carolina Hurricanes on Sept. 23 and the Devils on Sep.27.

The Capitals close out the preseason versus Carolina on Sept. 29 and St.Louis on Oct. 1.

The NHL has not announced the start of the regular season.

Monday, Sept. 18: at New Jersey (7 p.m.)

Wednesday, Sept. 20: at Montreal (7:30 p.m.)

Friday, Sept. 22: St. Louis (7 p.m.)

Saturday, Sept. 23: Carolina (7 p.m.)

Wednesday, Sept. 27: New Jersey (7 p.m.)

Friday, Sept. 29: at Carolina (7 p.m.)

Sunday, Oct. 1: at St. Louis (TBD)
