AUBURN, Maine (AP) - The urge to gamble despite negative consequences is a challenge but experts say there’s hope.

Treatment providers and others will examine the role of technology and emerging trends in problem gambling during a Monday conference at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.

The National Council on Problem Gambling says that between six and eight million Americans meet criteria for gambling disorder.

And one person’s gambling can impact up to 10 people, including families as well as businesses and communities.

Individuals who live with a substance abuse disorder are likely to experience a problem with gambling.
