FIFE, Wash. (AP) - Authorities have named the deputies who fatally shot a man outside a motel south of Seattle after he drove into a deputy.
The News Tribune reports (https://goo.gl/K0IZWU ) Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies Jesse Hotz and Shaun Darby, both 43, were placed on paid leave after the March 14 shooting death of Ryan Rosa.
Authorities say the incident happened when a special investigations unit went to the motel in Fife, Washington to look for the Rosa, a 36-year-old felon wanted for multiple burglaries.
When the team spotted Rosa in a car, they boxed in his vehicle and ordered him out. Police say he refused and backed into an unmarked patrol car. Deputies used pepper-spray on Rosa but he drove into a deputy, knocking him to the ground.
The sheriff’s office says Hotz and Darby fired after Rosa again drove at them.
Rosa died at the scene.
