PROSECUTORS FILE LESSER CHARGE IN BABY’S FATAL BEATING
The Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office has charged 62-year-old Kathleen Steele with leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle causing injury, which comes with up to five years in prison. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office had charged Steele with aggravated manslaughter in August. That’s when authorities say her young son beat her daughter to death after Steele left them alone in her minivan.
HEIST THIS: JEWELER LOCKS WOULD-BE DIAMOND ROBBER IN VAULT
The would-be robbery played out on March 18 at ECJ Luxe Collection in Boca Raton. Fatima Milanovic faces charges of grand theft and organized fraud. Vladislav “Bobby” Yampolsky told police he sensed something wrong when Milanovic tried to buy 11 stones worth $6.7 million in a deal that had been in the works for weeks.
LAWYER: STUDENT REINSTATED AFTER INCIDENT WITH MUSLIN PROF
Attorney Kenneth Lewis said in a statement that 20-year-old Marshall Polston will return to Rollins College next week. The statement also calls for a “full inquiry” into the actions of Professor Areej Zufari. The Winter Park school temporarily suspended Polston March 24, citing his treatment of the professor. School President Grant Cornwell declined comment on Polston’s disciplinary hearing.
ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER HIDING IN FLORIDA LAKE
Orange County Sheriff’s officials said in a news release that the man was arrested as he came out of the lake Friday morning. Earlier Friday, deputies say he beat up a woman who apparently owed him money. The news release says the man and a woman he was with spotted the victim outside a convenience store near Orlando. The two had their three young children in the backseat of their car.
100 DEAD BALL PYTHONS FOUND IN SOUTH FLORIDA HOME
A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission report says Jupiter police took the woman into custody for a psychological evaluation Feb. 16 when they first responded to her home. She was cited March 13 with animal abandonment and given an April 12 court date. Authorities say the woman’s home was covered in animal feces. Officers found about 30 to 40 plastic bins each containing 2 to 4 dead snakes.
