MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (AP) - A man has been arrested in the shooting death of a man in Gaston County earlier this week.
Local media outlets reported that Mount Holly police have charged 34-year-old Josiah Russell Philpott has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police were called to a fight Wednesday night and found 35-year-old Christopher Caskey suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia where he died.
Police say Philpott was returning the two children he had with a woman who was now living with Caskey when the fight started.
Court documents filed by Natasha Johnston allege that her husband had acted violently against her and their two children in the past.
Court officials say Philpott will be assigned a public defender.
