TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A newly proposed measure seeking to address New Jersey’s pressing infrastructure woes would use $400 million from the state’s Transportation Trust Fund for immediate repairs.
The Record reports (https://njersy.co/2m2cmaz ) the bill, unveiled by Senate President Stephen Sweeney on Tuesday, is scheduled to go before the Senate budget and appropriations committee on Thursday.
The measure co-sponsored by Republican Sen. Steven Oroho omits additional funding for NJ Transit while earmarking money for bridge and road maintenance.
Gov. Chris Christie proposed a $400 million supplemental appropriation during his budget address to both fund the much-needed repairs and also “expedite technology enhancements and other infrastructure improvements” for NJ Transit.
An American Society of Civil Engineers report found that 1 in 11 bridges in New Jersey is structurally deficient.
NJ Transit had no comment.
