ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - A man police say was drunk and speeding when he rear-ended a taxi on a Massachusetts highway, killing the cab’s passenger, has pleaded not guilty to a more serious charge.

The Sun Chronicle (https://bit.ly/2pngPZH ) reports that 41-year-old Michael Spinale, of Boston, now faces a charge of manslaughter by motor vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police say Spinale struck the moving taxi on Interstate 95 in Attleboro on March 18. The crash killed 39-year-old Kailash Bolar, of Warwick, Rhode Island.

Police say Spinale told them he had “five or six beers” while bar hopping on St. Patrick’s Day.

He previously pleaded not guilty to charges including motor vehicle homicide while drunk.

The new charge carries a more serious punishment.

His lawyer has not commented.
