MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Leading lawmakers at the Vermont Statehouse hope to wrap up their work this week, but pressure from Republican Gov. Phil Scott and his allies to add a proposal to the state budget may force the session to be extended.

Scott’s proposal, to save money by forcing teachers to negotiate their health care plans directly with the state, will likely be debated in various venues, most significantly during negotiations over the state budget. Those negotiations start Monday, when House and Senate lawmakers are coming to the table to hash out differences in their proposals.

Other proposals up for final actions this week: getting a state ethics commission in place, a paid family leave expansion and two competing proposals to legalize marijuana, neither of which are likely to pass.
