CAMPTON, N.H. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service hopes a new “story map” will give visitors to the White Mountain National Forest a new understanding of how the land is managed.

The interactive web site allows viewers to zoom in on areas of interests and dig deeper into topics such as history or the forest’s multiple uses. The site features photos of differnt types of forestry and wildlife habitat management techniques and aerial photos that show how vegetation in harvested areas grows over time.

Spokeswoman Tiffany Benna says the interactive maps are a good way to tell the history of how national forest lands came to be and why they are managed for multiple purposes.

The almost-800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest is located in New Hampshire and western Maine.
