EASTON, Pa. (AP) - Jurors have convicted a man whose hand was severed during what authorities called a home invasion in eastern Pennsylvania last summer.
The Northampton County panel deliberated for about 2½ hours Tuesday before convicting 55-year-old William Andrews Jr. of aggravated assault, burglary and related offenses.
The resident testified Monday that he used the machete July 2 after seeing two men with bandannas over their face in his basement, and was then assaulted and shot with a BB gun.
Defense attorney Alex Mills said his client, who will be sentenced May 26, was merely “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Andrews blamed two co-defendants, saying he was unaware of their plans in going to the home.
Andrews needed several surgeries to reattach the hand, which remains in a splint.
