DALLAS (AP) - A 24-year-old Dallas-area man who pleaded guilty to killing his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend by shooting her twice in the head has been sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Dallas County prosecutors say Anthony Marcus was obsessed with Florencia Padilla after their break-up in 2015, showing up at her house and job and even tracking down phone records and hacking into her text messages. The two had been high school sweethearts and Padilla was valedictorian at Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy.

Evidence showed he picked her up from college on April 27, 2016, and shot her at close range in his car.

The Dallas Morning News reports (https://bit.ly/2rqMvPF ) Marcus, who also was fined $10,000 by a jury Friday, must serve 30 years before he’s eligible for parole.
