POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man who drowned while canoeing on the Hudson River as a former New York high school baseball star who went on to play for an upstate college.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports (https://pojonews.co/2qMCqvH ) the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Evin Kleinganz, of Poughkeepsie, was canoeing with two other people Friday evening when they capsized near Norrie Point, north of Poughkeepsie.

Deputies say his body was recovered late Saturday morning. His companions were rescued by another vessel.

Kleinganz was an all-star pitcher at Arlington High School outside Poughkeepsie who went on to pitch at the College of Saint Rose in Albany.
