YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say an officer shot and wounded a man after an alleged drive-by shooting and vehicle pursuit near Yakima.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office says a resident called police Monday afternoon reporting that someone had shot at his house.

The sheriff’s office says officers located the suspect vehicle, a chase ensued and that one of the people in the car ran from the car with a gun.

The sheriff’s office says the person ran into the area of a wrecking yard and then pointed a handgun at the officers. The sheriff’s office says at least one of the officers shot the person.

Officers administered medical aid and the person was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

Authorities say the vehicle chase continued until the car crashed and several others were taken into custody.
