WESTPORT, Ind. (AP) - Police say a 2-year-old girl who went into a southeastern Indiana roadway has been fatally struck by a pickup truck.

Indiana State Police say in a statement that Lena J. Snowden was hit on Monday night near Pine Lake Apartments in Westport.

Police say she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Decatur County Coroner’s Office. The 45-year-old driver of the pickup truck wasn’t injured. An initial investigation found that the Greensburg man wasn’t able to avoid striking the girl with the truck.

The death is under investigation.
