EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a former investment adviser who was scheduled to be tried next month on drug charges was found dead at home in Springfield, Oregon.

Lane County Chief Deputy District Attorney Erik Hasselman says a medical examiner is awaiting toxicology reports while trying to determine the cause of death for 55-year-old Stephen Alison.

Hasselman tells The Register-Guard (https://bit.ly/2qkkJQg ) there was no sign of violence.

Alison had faced felony drug-dealing charges involving methamphetamine and heroin.

Previously, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigators found that Alison violated the federal Investment Advisors Act before his Eugene-based business closed in late 2014.

Among other things, investigators said Alison pushed some clients to invest in mutual funds that produced additional fees for him. The agency revoked Alison’s investment adviser registration.
