LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a dozen people have been arrested as part of a federal investigation into a large-scale credit card skimming operation that targeted Southern California restaurant patrons.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says early-morning raids Tuesday at properties in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties targeted a pair of street gangs.

The 12 suspects are charged in a fraud indictment that says portable credit card skimming devices were placed at a Huntington Beach restaurant.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/2qWpl0Y) more than 500 credit cards were compromised and banks reported losses of more than a half-million dollars.

At least one of the defendants is also charged with large-scale drug sales.
