Part of southbound Interstate 17 in north Phoenix is closed because a naked man was hit by a car, and drivers are being advised to consider taking other routes during the Friday morning commute.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia says the man reportedly was involved in an altercation at a nearby hotel before he went onto the freeway, laid down on traffic lanes and then was hit by a car after he stood up.

Garcia says the man’s injuries are serious.

The Department of Transportation says southbound I-17 traffic has to leave the freeway at Northern Avenue but then can get back on the freeway by using the Northern Avenue on-ramp.

ADOT says alternate routes include Route 51 and the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway.
