MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island have announced the arrests of three alleged MS-13 gang members on attempted murder charges.

Nassau County police said Wednesday the three immigrants from El Salvador were arrested in connection with two separate machete attacks on 19-year-old men in Westbury.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/2pZAnou ) reports that police identified two of the suspects as brothers, 26-year-old Jose Hernandez and 23-year-old Fidel Hernandez. The third suspect is 18-year-old Miguel Urias Arguenta.

Police say Jose Hernandez also fired multiple shots at one of the victims. All three were arrested Tuesday. It wasn’t clear if they had lawyers. Police wouldn’t say if the two machete attack victims were gang members.

Police were still investigating whether the suspects had any links to the killings of four young people in Brentwood and Central Islip.
