HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities in New Jersey presented shoes as evidence in a murder trial, citing the size of the shoes and a match to a footprint found near a woman’s body.

NorthJersey.com reports (https://njersy.co/2pW0kFj ) that prosecutors told a jury that two pairs of sneakers found in the apartment of Daniel Rochat appeared to match a footprint impression left near the scene of Barbara Verneri’s death. Rochat is charged with killing Verneri and setting her body on fire.

Rochat’s defense attorney, Jim Doyle, told the jury that a match between shoes was not substantial as it’s not possible to know when the footprint was made.

The trial will resume with cross-examination on Wednesday.
