TIGARD, Ore. (AP) - A bus driver for students with special needs has been charged with sexually abusing one of his passengers.

Tigard police spokesman Jim Wolf says 60-year-old Mario Mendez Ruiz was arrested Wednesday and booked into jail. A Washington County grand jury indicted him April 21.

Wolf says a female student told school officials she had been abused while riding on the bus this spring. The two alleged incidents occurred when the girl was the only remaining passenger.

Wolf says the driver deviated from his route and parked the bus in a different neighborhood. He then took a seat next to the student. Wolf says the driver allegedly gave money to the girl, along with instructions not to tell anyone of their friendship.
