HOPKINTON, R.I. (AP) - Police in Rhode Island have charged a New York man who they say was stopped with $150,000 worth of marijuana in his minivan.

Thirty-seven-year-old Huilin Wu, of Brooklyn, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of marijuana.

Officials say state troopers stopped Wu on Interstate 195 for a traffic violation Tuesday. Troopers say they found 48 pounds (21.77 kilograms) of marijuana packaged in vacuum sealed bags inside of laundry bags after searching Wu’s vehicle. Authorities say they also seized $498 in cash.

Investigators say Wu said he was heading to Quincy, Massachusetts.

Wu was referred to the public defender’s office on Wednesday. It’s unclear whether an attorney has been assigned.
