CHICAGO (AP) - A 15-year prison sentence has been handed a convicted sex offender who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl on a Chicago Transit Authority bus.

Cook County Circuit Judge Thomas Byrne on Thursday sentenced Judex Colon to 12 years in prison for predatory criminal sex assault of a victim under age 13. The 34-year-old Colon also received a consecutive three-year prison term for aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Prosecutors say Colon committed the assault in January 2015, shortly after completing required weekly registration with Chicago police. He was convicted in 2008 of sexually abusing two girls in Indiana.

Authorities say Colon boarded the bus outside police headquarters and fondled and assaulted the child while she sat with her mother and brother. The girl later told her mother what happened.

Surveillance video and Colon’s transit card corroborated the child’s account.
